Introducing...Dailen!

Dailen

Hi guys! First of all, sorry I haven't been posting for a while. I've been pretty busy gearing up for NaNoWriMo and just generally working on Dragons' Bane so I can really knock out a large portion of it come November. :)

That being said, today I'd like to introduce you to another of Dragons' Bane's characters: Dailen Shale.

Uh, hello. I'm Dailen, but I think you already knew that.

My life is probably going to sound pretty simple compared to some of the others, but that's okay. Let's see...I'm an only child, and I've lived in Calest my whole life with both my wonderful parents. We pretty much live in the slums of the city, but that'll change one day. I'll make sure of it.

One thing you need to understand about me: I'm a very private person. The past is very painful to talk about, so for now, I'm just going to focus on the present.

I'm a soldier for the Calestan government, and also somewhat of a spy. There's something not right with everything going on, and I'm determined to get to the bottom of it. The Calestan government has some sort of secret project they're hiding from all but a select few, and I have a growing suspicion about what it could be. It's not good.

But I don't want to bore you with the doom-and-gloom story of my country. Let's find something else to talk about. Um...I haven't seen Lena since I was taken, which could either be very good or very bad. She has magic, and magic-users in Calest only end up in one of two places: as part of the government, or missing/possibly dead. It doesn't make sense to kill them all, though, which is part of what has me suspicious. But I'll hold back any more thoughts on that until I know anything for certain.

Let's see...what's something personal about me? Well, according to Lena I'm reserved but very loyal, and I think a lot more than I speak. I suppose that's all true, though I'm not quite sure about the 'loyal' part. But I do like to think a lot, especially on the possibilities of the future, either grim or hopeful. I'm optimistic, but also realistic.

Hobbies...likes...hmm. Calest is a lot different from Galdania, you know. Most of us don't have much time for frivolities, nor the money/resources to engage in them. I do like reading, though, and apparently 'fancy words' (also from Lena). Actually, I've always dreamed of sailing across the sea, adventuring to some faraway place like you read about in stories. But that's just my silly fantasy.

Anyway, I should probably get back to work now. My superior just informed me we have an important meeting, and I shouldn't keep him waiting. It was a good talk though, I guess. I don't know...I'm not very good with these types of things.

So...yeah. Goodbye.

Ah, Dailen. He really has had quite a rough life, poor guy, and I don't blame him for keeping a lot to himself. Calest isn't full of many trustworthy people, if you know what I mean.

Anyway, I hoped you still enjoyed this little glimpse into Dragons' Bane. :) I'm not sure who we'll talk to next, but I'm thinking it'll be another mage. Both of the ones I'm considering play an important role in the story and are linked to both Lena and Blaze, but I can't decide which one...

Well, which would you prefer: The nerdy weather mage, Chanis, or the smart and kind nature mage, Kinelly?
